I remember commenting (possibly when I was on Twitter) to someone who was defending (!) the charged TM system, that regardless of anything else, it’s just mind-numbingly boring sitting there cycling through endless moves you don’t want. Why would anyone want that?

I agree with the solution that it should work like the Elite TM, just without the option for Elite moves. Clearly, they are capable of coding this so I don’t understand why they’d keep the current broken system.

Alternatively, if they don’t want to implement this, just have it cycle through the available moves. This is worse, obviously, but at least you are guaranteed to get the move you want within at most ~10 TMs (bar oddities like Mew!).

FYI, my most used in one go was ~30, trying to get Icy Wind on Poliwrath. The problem will only get worse as the move pools get bigger as well…

When I was deciding on what to write about this week, I was contemplating either writing about Charged TMs or people who defend what I see as the indefensible in justifying Master League in its current form. I obviously opted for the former, with Jonkus' mid-video confession and people's strong response to my comment helping break the tie, but it's interesting to hear someone was trying to validate a system predicated so strongly on random chance. I swear that some players' brains are broken from ingesting so many "conservative" talking points about video games.

Like I wrote in my post, if you were to have unlimited chances to secure the desired move, the current framework would be acceptable, albeit boring and inconvenient. Their present paucity, however, means the stakes are way too high. I recall someone on a Twitch stream saying they witnessed ThoTechtical go through 20 or so Charged TMs to put Sludge on one Swampert. That's stupid and unnecessary.

Yet another Glickman in an imperfect system. It looks like it wouldn't be that hard to fix . Hey Niantic, throw us a bone!!!

Glickman, indeed. The Charged TM system would be very easy to fix, and it's not like it would be costing them money to overhaul it. It seems broken for purely arbitrary reasons or out of spite. It's asinine.

I definitely delete these as soon as I get them, but it's absolutely because of the randomness. If I knew what I was getting or what it meant, I might actually be more inclined to experiment and mess around with it, but the way it is it's just another barrier to entry to caring about battling haha

See? This is the kind of feedback I want Scopely/the Pokémon GO team to hear. They should be removing barriers to entry rather than fortifying them. If they were to make GBL easier to get into, I wonder whether we'd see a spike in interest/participation or whether people are so conditioned to bypassing PvP that they'd still refuse to take the plunge. It wouldn't hurt them (the game's owners/makers) to try.
