Beyond their ability to generate extra Candies, esp. Candies XL, I could really care less about Mega Pokémon. As far as PvP goes, they're meaningless until further notice. If there's a Raid Day or there are enough interested players on a Comm Day or something, sure. I don't even know which unreleased Megas exist because I didn't play the main series game(s) that featured the mechanic. So, yeah, just a big shrug from me.
Re our countries, sweet Lord Arceus, they are really trying to race to the bottom on being pro-Israel and anti-trans. I don't really have much hope for better on those fronts, either. Speaking as an American, until we reckon with our past and present injustices, we can't truly heal, but forces backed by large sums are actively trying to obscure if not rewrite the record. It's a sad state of affairs.
My nephews came to mine on the Sunday to play, which made it infinitely more enjoyable. We were all disappointed that it was only Zacian raids, though. I also don’t really like that all the big releases are now basically megas in a different skin.
4th of July is a bit weird as a Brit, we tend to bury our heads in the sand over our colonial past. I don’t think either of our nations are showing themselves in the best light currently, I just hope that someday soon we can both be legitimately proud of where we’re from (I won’t hold my breath though).

I want to hope for the best. I hope that we will continue to see the best in people and also the best from people. That's what America is really all about.
I wish I were more optimistic. I feel like unfortunately things are going to have to get significantly worse before we see a significant power shift away from the top earners in our society and those in power. This is to say that I see better things coming eventually, but there's going to be a lot of needless suffering in the meantime.
