I mean, it is very tempting. I have a Best Buddy Shiny 96% Raticate that I wouldn't mind seeing get the bump to shundo status. At this point, though, I'm committed to F2P. Joey Rats' stats are locked in place indefinitely.

Denmark, eh? Have some salty licorice for me. 🇩🇰

Oh that would be the perfect use for it! ❤️

Haha, salty licorice would not be on my list 😂 I would be making a beeline for Lego HQ though…

Well no one can say that JoeRattata hates anything you have to pay for *just because* you have to pay for it. Your assessment of this is a pretty reasonable take, and while I personally have no interest in a gold bottlecap (do bottlecaps have any significance in Pokémon or is this just super random), if there's value there, that's cool.

But it's obviously another step in exploiting the diehards and getting the whales to pony up as much as possible. And while every app does that, it's certainly more annoying when competitive play is involved and you're not just holed up in a dark room crushing candy alone haha

I'm not sure why Bottle Caps are the currency here. From my two minutes of research, LOL, I saw that the Japanese word for "crown" is the same one as the word for "bottle cap." Whatever the reason, I like the idea of an ostensibly meaningless item being highly relevant for the purposes of raising Pokémon.

In terms of Hyper Training's appeal, I actually have far more interest as a casual player than as a battler. Simply put, I just want one shundo before I die, ha. That there are PvP implications and that people will be shelling out for it is what I find discouraging, though. It's really a cool concept, and given the dearth of bankable new features, it's a welcome way to focus your energy as a player. It's certainly flawed, at the same time.

I always know whatever mobile game I’m playing at the time is all about the money. The good ones don’t make it obvious. Pogo has gone from obvious to almost flaunting it at this point.

And I’m torn, I don’t mind a few bucks here and there when I’m playing a free game. Surely someone at their company isn’t paid too well and I like to think my purchase is going to them, but when is enough enough?

And just like the people that clamor for cards in Marvel Snap. When that game does finally go away, so do the cards. When Pogo goes away, so do all your Pokemon. I guess you can keep them in Pokemon Home….for a small fee.

I would like to think that my purchase helps out the individual devs, but the reality is the lion's share of the profits is probably going to company execs. At any rate, the problems of unfair compensation and wage theft are structural. Until the root causes are addressed, our spending habits can only go so far.

The point about the impermanence of these in-game assets is a salient one, though. I feel like moving my Pokémon to HOME would be a small consolation if I can't battle with them or my interactions would otherwise be limited.

I was initially a bit jealous about a cool item coming to Go. But when I thought about it, I realised I would never have paid for it anyway!

Its main utility is for Master League PvP. I agree that this makes it more P2W, but then I was never close to begin with. I can’t swim to the US from the UK, so moving to Denmark, whilst being further away, wouldn’t really affect that.

I 100% agree that anyone that buys it should be allowed to complete it in their own time though.

I do wonder how much people would have paid for it. I don’t think $20 is anywhere near the limit…

Ugh...I hate the Substack app. Please find my real reply elsewhere in these comments. 🤦‍♂️

Well if they're gonna charge major bucks for this bottle cap, it's good that it has the potential to be worth it . Let's hope so. We know darn well that many a trainer will spring for it.

Yeah, and as Diego observes, people would probably spend more than $20. I do think it's a good feature, even if the paywall is a detriment.
