I think my problem with Dynamax is that they know that few people would do the Max Battles if they were allowed to just Dynamax the Pokémon they already own. So they’ve had to artificially make a separate category of Pokémon that are “Dynamaxable”, but given it’s a self contained system I’m not sure why anyone should care.
On the positive side, at least they’re free & you can do multiple in a day. I’ve currently resolved to not spend stardust or XL candies on them, but I did manage to solo a couple of Beldums with Charizard x2 & Dubwool (as I have plenty of regular candy for them). I also got a Dreepy from a Power Spot encounter which was my favourite thing about them, but I haven’t had another encounter for days sadly.
Incredible that the state of GBL is known to be even worse than when you wrote this, given the exploit. So much potential from the move update has been squandered, it’s a big shame.
I think I've done one Dynamax Charmander, LOL. Which isn't to say that I couldn't have evolved it and tried to double down on beating the Beldum, but I wasn't motivated enough to keep trying, in all honesty. There are aspects to like with Dynamax, to be sure, but as you said, as part of a self-contained system, it's hard to maintain interest in Max Battles on their own merit. Maybe as the Dynamax roster expands, it'll be more exciting, but especially in the feature's infancy, I'm not sold.
On GBL, meanwhile, I haven't battled much at all this season. At this writing, I'm at Rank 16. I don't think I'm pushing for any rank with how the game is right now. Maybe my battling will pick up when the limited metas get better.
Yeah that’s fair, I understand the lack of motivation. I guess I’ve been doing them just as something to do!
I’m playing at the moment, but then I have an iPhone so GBL at least vaguely functions for me. I don’t think I’d bother if I had an Android phone at the moment. Baffled that they’re still not even acknowledging the problems, let alone attempting to sort them.
Yeah Dynamax is terrible. I got the sheep one, and due to muscle memory I immediately tried to transfer it when I got the error message "you need to have at least one Dynmax poke." OK I guess. Then I got to the next stage where I realized I had to battle and had the exact same experience as you - put my one little sheep against a 3-star Beldum and got walloped. So I was like OK...now what
And I can't complete chores for MP because I'm maxed out of MP because I'm not engaging in battles I can't win to spend it. Excellent UX! haha
I think if it's a well trafficked area, Trainers can leave their Pokémon at the Power Spot or whatever it's called and that Pokémon can aid in the battle. I feel like if this were released even a few years ago, that would be a really cool function. Now, though, the players who will benefit primarily are city dwellers.
Pokémon GO is simply a game optimized for urban play. Unless you have a particularly avid group of players at your behest, these communal challenges are going to be tougher.

How about both 🤔? We can only dream lol😊
I will take what I can get, honestly.
